- Credit Suisse With fears about fourth-quarter comparable-store weakness at both McDonald's and Starbucks realized and behind us, we think this is an interesting time to do a deeper dive into "French Fries or Frappuccinos?" We believe Starbucks (SBUX) still represents the most attractive large-cap investment opportunity in the restaurants for several reasons. Relative valuation for Starbucks is more compelling than investors may think. Taking into account Starbuck's rolling forward on meaningful earnings-per-share growth, and a resetting of McDonald's (MCD) growth expectations (which may in fact reflect broad secular headwinds), Starbucks does not necessarily screen as expensive. In particular: 1) Starbucks' relative price/earnings multiple and enterprise value/earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EV/Ebitda) multiples versus McDonald's have only expanded a turn over that period, and it trades at a price/earnings-to-growth (PEG) multiple of 1.3 times versus McDonald's at 2.1 times;
