Lions Club of Aldona organizing e-waste collection

PANAJI: Lions Club of Aldona, in association with Group TenPlus, the sole authorized agency for collection of e-waste in Goa, is organizing an e-waste collection drive at the premises of the Lions Club of Aldona on January 26. People from Aldona and surrounding villages can bring in their e-waste. Group TenPlus will then arrange for its pickup and send it to Roorkee, Uttarakhand, where the e-waste will be recycled by Attero Recycling. The list of e-waste that can be collected and cannot be collected has been pasted on the notice board at St Thomas Church, Aldona. Diet counseling camp: A free diet counseling camp will be held on the occasion of Republic Day at JMJ Hospital, Porvorim on January 26 between 9.30am and 12.30pm, under the guidance of interventional cardiologist, Dr Jyoti Kusnur. Diabetic individuals will be advised regarding prevention of heart and kidney diseases and other complications associated with diabetes. The first 30 registered patients will undergo free body fat analysis along with Body Mass Index (BMI) estimation, and receive diet tips from dietician Aparna Mone. Photography workshop: The Goa Centre for Alternative Photography (Goa CAP) and Goa Chitra Museum , in collaboration with Goa State Museum, has initiated the 'Historical Photo Restoration Week' to promote public education and awareness on conservation, restoration and preservation of historical photographs to protect Goan visual heritage. Minister for environment, forest and museum, Alina Saldanha, has consented to be the chief guest for the inaugural ceremony. The workshop would be held from January 31 to February 3 at Goa Chitra Museum, Benaulim. The visiting expert at the event is Gisela Harich-Hamburger, head of foundation at the Conservation Center of Photography, Berlin. Writing course: Candidates interested in honing skills of content writing are invited for a short term certificate course in 'Web Content Writing & Blogging', offered by school of media studies, St. Xavier's College, Mapusa. Felicitation ceremony for Konkani author: Konkani writer Tukaram Rama Shet, who has been awarded the prestigious Sahitya Puraskar from the Sahitya Academy, New Delhi, will be felicitated in a public function on January 28 at 4.30 PM, at the Sanskriti Hall, central Library, Patto. The award of Rs 1 lakh and a citation was given to the writer from Betim, for his collection of essays titled 'Monmotiya'(Pearls of the heart).The felicitation programme is organized by Konkani Lekhak Sangh and the department of Atrt and Culture, government of Goa.
Unique dialogue at GU: Eminent economist Prof. Amit Bhaduri and ecologist Prof. Madhav Gadgil will conduct a unique dialogue on 'Development and Environment under the VRPP programme' at Goa University, on January, 31, between 11 am and 1pm. The session will be an interactive one, where the audience will be given the opportunity to discuss relevant issues with the two experts and ask questions as well.
Treks to the Himalayas: Eco Treks Goa, an adventure group from Goa, is organizing its annual summer treks to the Himalayas for 2014. This year, there will be two treks - to Mani Mahesh Lake in Chamba Valley of Himachal Pradesh which starts from April 29 and to Shirigan Tungu Base in the scenic area between Manali & Naggar region in Himachal Pradesh starting from May 7. In preparation of the treks, three slide shows will be held on February 1. The first show will be from 4pm to 5pm, the second show will be from 5pm to 6pm and the third show will be from 6pm to 7pm at Nalanda, 6th floor, EDC Building, Atmaram Borkar Road, behind Junta house, Panaji. Kantaram competition: To preserve the traditional concept of duets, duos, trios and quartet, Tiatr Academy of Goa has invited entries for the fourth Konkani kantaram competition. This year, the competition will be held on February 1 from 3pm onwards at Black Box, Ravindra Bhavan, Margao. The competition will be held in two categories for those above 18years of age and those below 18years. TAG invites entries in the following categories: best duet, best duo, best trio, best quartet, best choral song and best lyrics. Besides cash prizes ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 6,000, mementos and certificates will be awarded to winners in the categories. Weekend screenings at ESG: Entertainment Society of Goa in its weekend cinema series will screen acclaimed film 'Mare Paryant Faashi' this week on January 26 at 5.30pm. The screening will be held at Maquinez Audi-I. Mare Paryant Faashi (2008) is a debate between two friends; a jailer and an author of international repute on capital punishment, which takes an interesting turn.
Free rhythmic breathing course: Attend a free beginners' session for 'three step rhythmic breathing', the correct natural breathing pattern. The session will be an introduction to the ancient system of self-realization and will include the teaching of six refining exercises. It is expected to relieve stress and tiredness. The session is free and requires no prior registration. It will be presented in a language convenient to a majority of the participants. Coaching for students at GU: The ninth batch of the UGC sponsored NET SET coaching classes for students from SC/ST, OBC and minority communities, conducted by Goa University, will commence from February 1.
