SIRG will be constructing a new leach pond and here is an example of one being built. SIRG has an advantage because there is an existing pond that will be enlarged so there will be less soil removal and grading required.
Cresson Project
Project Location: Cripple Creek, Colorado
Client: Cripple Creek and Victor Gold Mining
Synopsis of work:
The Cresson Mine Valley Leach Pad site development and infrastructure construction project, located within an exclusive residential ski development, is at an elevation of about 9500 feet between the historic mining towns of Cripple Creek and Victor.
Ames Construction was the prime contractor for site development and initial leach pad construction when Cresson Mine was reactivated in the early 1990s and, subsquently selected to construct the Phase II and III expansions of the valley leach facility.
The work on these projects included 3,000,000 cubic yards of grading, processing of all aggregates, and construction of 9,500,000 square feet of leach pad liner system. Phase II work included construction of a 75-foot high earthen dam across the lower end of the leach pad expansion area. Phase III work extended the limits of the leach pad into areas where extensive remediation of old underground mine workings was required prior to liner installation.
The designed liner system consisted of a clay/bentonite subgrade processed from an on-site borrow, layers of geotextile, and LLDPE or VLDPE liner. The liner system is covered with processed on-site aggregate liner cover material. Underdrains were installed below the liner to intercept and divert groundwater from natural drainageways.
Ames work included installation of an extensive leak detection and leachate collection system, and a major system of ditches, culverts and diversion structures to redirect surface water flow away from the leach pad.
