Of "nice guys", Leo Durocher, manager of baseball's New York Giants (1883-1957) before they moved to San Francisco, said: "The nice guys are all over there in seventh place.” Seventh place was last place in the National League at that time. The title of Leo Durocher's famous autobiography, Nice Guys Finish Last, is of course now an aphorism.
