"The nice guys are all over there in seventh place.” Seventh place was last place in the National League at that time. The title of Leo Durocher's famous autobiography,
Nice Guys Finish Last, is of course now an aphorism.
"Upon his retirement, Durocher ranked fifth all-time among managers with 2,009 career victories, second only to John McGraw in National League history."
