Re: The Illest #570
I like Pauls ideas on paper i really do, but the lack of rules in play would cause the wealthy corporate ineterests to run even more amuck. Picture Big Oil drilling anywhere they can make a profit, same with coal, with underfunded or nonexistant safeguards on environmental things, as well as food supply items.

Liberals see goverment regulations as rules for adults, as we understand that human nature causes people to do crazy things and find a way to justify it no matter what. They build off of existing programs that have had measureabke success in making the lives of people better. We had our most succesful period when taxes for the wealthy were MUCH higher, as they could put that money to work on things that the country needed, like highways and ports, etc. Government worked with organized labor to make sure the middle of the road guy was represented as well, and the spending power of the middle class and the taxes they raised made the wealthy even more wealthy while everyone prospered. Now since the early 80s when our governkent began loosening some rules, unions have been decimated and the top percentiles have used their money to influence government more and more in their favor. Theyve made government the enemy so they can justify paying even less in taxes, claiming we cant afford the programs our needy desperately need and USE.

Its all about moving money around and using it as fast as we can and building off of it. Ron Pauls policies would leave far too much slack in the economy in my opinion. And the prospect of immediate spending cuts we would face would guarantee and instant recession too....Nobel Economists have confirmed that.
