SonaKazemi (Ph.D.) has obtained her bachelor's degree, master's degree, and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, the first two of which came from Sharif University of Technology in Iran. Her doctoral work focused on microbial fuel cells for the production of electricity from wastewater, and included a broad range of electrochemical work such as the design, maintenance, and operation of fuel cells, catalyst layer preparation and characterization, electro-analytical characterization, and process and reactor modeling and simulation. Sona is the author of four soon-to-be-published academic papers regarding her work at UBC, and additionally has extensive experience in unit operations design.
Amin Aziznia (Ph.D.) also obtained his bachelor's and master's degrees in Chemical Engineering in Iran, from Iran University of Science and Technology and Sharif University of Technology. Focused on catalysis and chemical reaction engineering, his doctoral work involved the development of a novel "Mixed-Reactant Fuel Cell" (MRFC). This work has led to the publication of seven academic papers and one patent application, and sparked significant interest in the fuel cell community. The MRFC is exclusively licensed by Mantra and is patented in the United Kingdom, and its development will continue at the Mantra laboratories.
"The addition of Amin and Sona to the Mantra team is exactly what we need to move these technologies forward," says Mantra CEO Larry Kristof. "I am extremely excited about the talent we are bringing into the lab."
CTO Patrick Dodd adds, "These two have already shown their ingenuity, originality, and value, as they did at UBC."
Please look for an update on Mantra's MRFC technology, soon to follow this release.
About ERC
ERC, or the "Electro-Reduction of Carbon Dioxide", is a form of "carbon capture and utilization" (CCU) that converts the pollutant carbon dioxide into useful, valuable products including formic acid and formate salts. By utilizing clean electricity, the process offers the potential for an industrial plant to reduce emissions while generating a salable product and a profit.
About Mantra Energy Alternatives
Mantra Energy Alternatives Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Mantra Venture Group Ltd., aims to become a world leader in the production of high-value, carbon-negative chemicals and fuels. Mantra is currently developing the ERC process, which will initially produce formic acid and formate salts from carbon dioxide, and will eventually be capable of generating a wide variety of products. The company seeks to simultaneously reduce anthropogenic carbon emissions, which total over 30 billion tonnes each year from fuel combustion alone, and generate value.
Mantra Venture Group is a public company quoted on the OTC QB under the symbol MVTG and on the Berlin Stock Exchange under the symbol 5MV.
