Kgem, yes, logging companies used the rivers to transport cut trees to the lumber mills in Minneapolis, and I am sure that logs would sink. I was referring to the lakes which were created during the Ice Age by the advancing glaciers. Hundreds to thousands of feet of ice scraping the land removed any trees that were there. Then the holes created were filled by melted ice as the glaciers receded, and trees eventually grew around the lakes.
Living in Texas is different because here there are a number to find lakes, but they are mostly were formed by damming up rivers. And when water levels are low, you can see trees sticking out of shallower parts.
I made that comment to TexasRambler because talking with many people from Texas over the past 17 years, many people assume all lakes are same. And if you are used to Texas lakes, you may think the 11,842 lakes larger than 10 acres in Minnesota are similar.
