For me; I've lost money in stocks, but nothing that I dislike more is when I convince myself that I was originally right. when expected events didn't go as I thought, sold a bunch to go somewhere else more promising, only to later find out those 'other' places would 'dump' after I got in. - Then I want back in as my ole baby is starting to come to life and then I find myself chasing the stock. A combo-punch.
I hate to chase, as on a thinly traded stock your punishing yourself each time to buy a chunk. Just when you want shares 'reasonable' there's nobody there to sell them to you. Your old cheap shares taxed as 'Long' Capital gains are replaced with expensive 'short' gainers. Should there be a buyout- Oh...- so sorry Charlie. Full boat Tax hit to Oh-Bummer ! UNLESS- your a sharp trader- that's then a different strategy and a whole different mind set.
I still have a very nice boat load of CTIX, I'm not going chase the pps, I'll leave that for others who will try to get back in when shorts are covering. That is a nasty experience! But Hey.... then you are truly convinced you were originally right all aong, all things then back to norm, and your back on tract.
Wishing All a Very Merry Christmas Season
