1) Retrofit Dust Collection System at the Garnet USA Mine
J3 signed a contract with Garnet USA in September, 2013 for the retrofit of Garnet’s dust collection system at their mine located in Alder, Montana. The mine had not been in operation for approximately three years. Garnet USA will produce industrial garnets at the upgraded mine facility.
During Phase I activities, the laboratory and process baghouses and associated ductwork were inspected by the J3 team and costs were developed to upgrade the four existing baghouses and laboratory ductwork. Phase II activities included equipment procurement, installation of laboratory ductwork and associated hoods, the retrofit of the three process baghouses and the laboratory baghouse, and project oversight for those activities. Phase III activities included the ductwork design effort and the development of costs associated with the design. Phase IV activities include the ductwork installation for the rotary kiln dryer, the dry process equipment, and the product load-out facility as well as project oversight for a total contract award of $348,930.93.
2) Sorbent Certification Testing
J3 signed a contract M2 Polymer in June, 2013 to perform certification testing for their Waste Lock 770 sorbent roll material and for their tea bag sorbent socks. Absorption testing, vibration testing, and freeze thaw testing were performed on the M2 products per the Nevada Test Site Waste Acceptance Criteria, as detailed in The Position Paper for High Moisture Content Waste. This information was provided to procurement personnel at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory to certify that the M2 Polymer sorbent products met performance specifications.
3) Requested MBS Treatability Studies
Montana Mine Water – after EPA approval for inclusion within a CERCLA Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study, water was collected by Tetra Tech personnel from a mine in Montana and treated with MBS in quantities ranging from 1.05 g/L to 1.5 g/L. After treatment the water passed the regulatory limits for all metals tested with unadjusted pH values ranging from 7.74 to 8.31. Additional information
Idaho Mine Water – water collected by BLM personnel from a mine adit in Idaho was successfully treated using MBS in quantities ranging from 5.55 g/L to 6.35 g/L. The BLM is currently seeking funding for an Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis and requested further information about MBS. Link for more info. Additional Information
Lead Slag – lead slag samples were obtained from a battery recycling center located in the southeast area of the United States. The samples were successfully treated to below the RCRA regulatory limit using a 5 wt% MBS application.
Chrome Contaminated Soil – a company from the northeast contacted J3 about a chrome contaminated soil. J3 was able to successfully treat this soil to non-detect levels and is currently working with the company on the advancement of the soil treatment.
