Ford Motor Co. said it would hire more than 3,000 salaried workers in 2014, mostly in engineering and product development, said Joe Hinrichs, president of the Americas, in a presentation Thursday.
Ford said it needs the employees to underpin major product launches over the next several years. In 2014, Ford is launching a host of new or redesigned models around the world, including the Mustang and F-150.
Next year "will be the biggest year for vehicle launches in the history of Ford," Mr. Hinrichs said.
Ford also will open three new plants, two in China and one in Brazil.
Ford also demonstrated an automated Fusion hybrid vehicle that it has been testing.
