The advantage of herbal supplements or nutraceuticals (i.e., fortified foods or dietary supplements) is that they can get to the consumers quickly and do not require FDA approval as would drugs or biologics. The formula for Coca-Cola is proprietary and isn't patented as that would require revealing it.
