e.DIGITAL FILES NEW PATENT INFRINGEMENT LAWSUITS AGAINST TOSHIBA, KINGSTON , SEAGATE, WESTERN DIGITAL, INTEL, MICRON, PNY AND OTHER FLASH MEMORY SUPPLIERS
Filings Follow Successful Licensing After Prior Patent Enforcement Actions
(SAN DIEGO, CA, – December 9, 2013) – e. Digital Corporation (OTCQB: EDIG), a long standing source of innovation and future-defining patented technologies, announced today that it has filed thirty-nine new patent infringement lawsuits in the United States District Court for the Southern District of California.
Handal & Associates, on behalf of the Company, has recently filed the lawsuits against entities that e.Digital believes infringe the Company’s U.S. Patent No. 5,839,108 (“the ’108 patent”) covering the use of flash memory technologies . The patent is part of e.Digital’s Flash-R™ patent portfolio.
Among the list of Defendants are Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., Kingston Technology Company, Inc., Seagate Technology LLC, Western Digital Corporation, Intel Corporation, Micron Technology, Inc., and PNY Electronics, Inc., dba PNY. The ‘108 patent relates to the way that modern day flash memory devices store and manage data.
“We have broadened our focus to now include the suppliers of Flash memory in our litigation strategy under the ’108 patent,” said Fred Falk, president and CEO of e.Digital. “The ’108 patent is valid through March of 2016 and, as a result, we intend to enforce our patent rights to the ’108 patent for years to come. In particular, we feel very strongly that the named suppliers are and have been directly infringing the ’108 patent and we seek to recover damages for the unauthorized use of our technology . We are pleased with the progress Handal & Associates has made in continuing to monetize our Flash-R patent portfolio and leveraging their comprehensive understanding of the portfolio to broaden our licensing opportunities,” concluded Falk.
