My reply to a nervous nellie on another board. Sin

Yes, MS5 was scheduled for Q2: "this quarter’s milestone still appears on track to be met. Once on-line wafer production begins, producing wafers for the continuance of the BAE Systems military IR Sensor proof of concept project due for completion later this year will take precedence."
As you'll see further down below is that MS5 is an easy MileStone to reach.
You'll also notice that other MS' & projects take precedence! So the nervous and/or emotional question (what is happening?) can easily be answered rationally! The answers are out in the open for all to see. Question is do they really want to see it?!
"Mr. Peter Copetti, Executive Director of OPEL, and Chair of the Special Strategic Committee (SSC) for commercialization of the POET platform, noted: “The SSC deemed Milestone 6 to be critical for our commercialization activities, and staff focused on this milestone. That we achieved Milestone 6 so quickly spotlights the caliber of the POET team, and our ability to execute and to pivot to industry needs.” Mr. Copetti added: “Due to ongoing needs of the SSC, other pre-determined milestones and dates may have to change without notice – but any changes will be consistent with our commercialization mandate.” The achievement of Milestone 6 obviates the need for Milestone 5 (3/4 terminal switching laser, Q2-2013). Milestone 6 was originally scheduled for Q3-2013, and its achievement in Q2 puts OPEL ahead of its targeted development milestones."
I think they could have used another word instead of "obviates", because that implies; renders it useless. Supersedes, or MS6 takes precedence would have been better IMO. Nonetheless, the company is flexible and "pivots" swiftly to industry demands... so MS5 is pushed further down the line as there are more important steps to complete...
"Board of Directors have endorsed the next phases of the Company’s commercialization plan put forward by the Special Strategic Committee (SSC) chaired by Executive Director Peter Copetti. The multi-pronged approach is based on discussions with potential industry partners and advisers regarding the Company’s two key markets consisting of the military and commercial sector that have been identified as potential early adopters of the POET platform. Currently, while POET’s incorporation in military projects is proceeding well, and should provide value in several key verticals, significant value exists in adapting POET for mass production within a commercial semiconductor fab environment. The Company must rapidly move to the next phase of its commercialization plan, which includes addressing feature size and scalability requirements for commercial fabs."
I think if they were to spend a couple of weeks, or a month, however long it takes to complete MS5 that they could achieve that quite easily, but clearly when they're asked by large companies to prove other more important components, as these are the conditions before engaging commercial production then they have to adapt to that! Luckily they're doing just that & are not blindly fixated at earlier CP dates (like some). Its a work in progress gentlemen and that is always subject to changes. Like Darwin said "adapt or go extinct"...
Establishing POET Development Alliances: (PDA's)
Drive for Reduction of Feature Size to 100-nm Range (100NM)
"The Company remains on track to deliver to industry, and specifically to its development partners, by mid-2014, a fully-integrated monolithic optoelectronic semiconductor chip based on the Company's POET platform. This leap-forward solution will be capable of providing significant energy savings and increased performance over current silicon technology.
"Milestone 5 - Switching Laser Demonstration at POET's R&D Labs. This milestone is near completion; it demonstrates a fast-signal controllable laser for standard optical fibre telecommunications applications. While the integrated POET switchable laser transmitter is a key differentiator to silicon technology, it is considered to demand less priority on resources, because of its low-risk for achievability, over milestones in our technical roadmap which have been deemed more important to our potential partners."
Well, here you have it folks, MS5 is near completion, but due to its low risk for achievability & because of special demands of their potential partners it is MUCH MORE IMPORTANT to fulfil those requests, no?! 3/4's along the way, as MS6 is already completed, and they have been working on the 100 nm for some time. Who knows it may already be 4/5's, or 9/10's... Patience is a virtue
"Milestone 7 - Optical Thyristor-Based Infrared Detector Array Fabrication and Validation. This milestone is currently proceeding with no technical issues, according to POET's third-party fab partner. While the POET team is in continuous communication with the fab, a publicly-available update may fall well into fourth quarter reporting, as control of this fabrication and validation process remains with our partner."
Absolutely no reason to be fearful at this point in time, despite some futile noises to the contrary, because its very clear "what is happening?" I say quite alot! LOL
Read all the Pr's & info released in 2013 & it will become clear to you too!
If people only took the time to read & comprehend all the available info, instead of being influenced by message board drivel, there wouldn't be any anxiety, fear & nervosity. There would be hope, faith and trust that the pieces that you've constructed in your mind will soon fall into place. But you don't have to take my word for it...
