I understand what you are saying.  Why did it fall into that category in the first place.  Could be many reasons.  The mortgage industry was going under at the time and lots of people were put in that position.  Heck..many famous people have been put in that position.  I honestly believe when it comes to this there is a good explanation due to a personal experience I went through.
