Roland Bryan - Chief Financial Officer Roland Bryan has been the President and CEO of MachineTalker, Inc. (MTI), the Company's previous business since its inception in January 2002. For the six years prior to founding MTI, Mr. Bryan was an independent advisor to high-tech companies on corporate organization, management, marketing and product development . In September 1994, WIRED MAGAZINE honored Mr. Bryan and 18 others, as the "Creators of the Internet." Mr. Bryan's professional background is in the areas of computer science research and process control through computer automation. During the last 25 years he has built and sold several high-tech companies in the fields of telecommunications networking, military computer systems and commercial equipment for network access. In 1974, he founded Associated Computer Consultants, Inc. ("ACC"), a company that implemented interconnections to the first packet network for many United States government agencies - ARPANET. In 1983 the name of the company was changed to Advanced Computer Communications, Inc. and continued to produce networking products for both military and commercial applications. ACC made the Inc. 500 List of Fastest Growing Companies in 1984. In 1998, Ericsson acquired ACC for $265 million.
Changwan Son, Ph.D. - Director of Technology Dr. Changwan Son, is an internationally published and recognized expert in the field of photonics and optoelectronic devices. His most recent post-doctoral research work at the University of California at Santa Barbara involves a novel low voltage semiconductor laser for use as nano-sized optical interconnects to replace metal wires inside high speed microprocessors and telecommunication devices. The design, based on metal slab waveguides, is the first in the world. He was responsible for the complete lifecycle of the project from the initial investigation and design, to computer modeling, to fabricating a working prototype. He also designed manufacturing processes and testing techniques for its commercial production. His breakthrough work has been published in Integrated Photonics and Nanophotonics Research and Applications, and the Lasers and Electro Optics Society.
Dr. Son received his Ph.D., Masters of Science, and Bachelors of Science degrees, all in Electrical Engineering at the Pusan National University in Korea. He has authored 15 publications on optoelectronic design and fabrication. One of his papers received the "Photonics Conference 2006 Best Paper Award" in Jeju, Korea. In addition to his academic skills, he also possess skills necessary to develop devices from concept to prototype using III-V materials, semiconductor lasers and amplifiers, optical waveguides, lithography, dry and wet etching, metal and dielectric film deposition, BeamPro and FullWave simulation, selective material growth using MBE and MOCVD. Dr. Son is clean room certified for basic micro-fabrication was well as Class I operations.
His decade long experience on the cutting edge of optoelectronic devices makes him well suited to develop Solar3D's innovative 3-dimensional solar cell. A solar cell converting light into electricity is like a laser working backwards converting electricity into light. His creativity and experience in micro- and nano-laser design is valuable in optimizing the performance of Solar3D's micro-photovoltaic structures.
