S&P 500, Dow rise , work for record closes
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) — The S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average joined a rally in European equities on Wednesday, with each benchmark working on achieving a record close.
The S&P 500 (SNC:SPX) was last up 2 points, or 0.1%, to 1,765, moderating its advance after rising as high as 1,773.79 intraday. To achieve a record close on Wednesday, the S&P 500 will have to top its closing level of 1,771.95 on Oct. 29, while to score an all-time intraday peak, it will have to clear 1,775.22, a level hit intraday on Oct. 30.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI JIA) was last up 64 points, or 0.4%, to 15,683. The blue-chip index also has moderated its gain after touching 15,732.88 intraday, topping its prior intraday record reached on Oct. 30. To achieve a record close on Wednesday, the Dow will have to close above 15,680.35, where it finished on Oct. 29.
The Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQ:COMP) bucked the positive trend, erasing an earlier gain and turning negative. The tech-heavy index was last down 17 points, or 0.4%, to 3,923. http://www.marketwatch.com/story/sp-500-dow-s...atest_news
