Nobody would deign to call Andy Roddick a quitter, but you gotta give the guy credit for quitting while he's ahead.
Roddick is hanging up his racket , announcing he'll take part in his last tournament before retiring at 30. In a typically candid news conference, the tennis pro spoke about not having the phsyical or mental commitment to go another year. "I don’t know that I want to disrespect the game by coasting home," Roddick said. "I had plans to play a smaller schedule next year. But the more I thought about it, I think you either got to be all in or not."
Roddick announced plans to build a youth tennis and learning center in his home city of Austin, Texas, where he hopes to be on-site every day training the next generation of players. Not bad ways to go game, set, match—and use some love to pay it forward.
