100 Top Global Chief Executives to Convene at Wall Street Journal CEO Council Annual Meeting

NEW YORK, Oct. 24, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Next month, The Wall Street Journal will again assemble more than 100 of the world's top chief executives to address critical business and policy issues at the sixth annual meeting of The Wall Street Journal CEO Council ( http://ceocouncil.wsj.com ). The meeting will take place November 18-19 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Washington, D.C.

Led by senior editors from the  Journal , this year's annual meeting focuses on the most urgent issues of 2013, such as political leadership in America today; key national security threats, including cyber espionage; new challenges in the global economy; and the emerging risks – and opportunities – in health care, energy and higher education.

In on-stage interviews led by The Wall Street Journal's editorial team, influential policy makers and subject-matter experts will share insights to inform the meeting's deliberations, including Chris Christie , governor of New Jersey;  Gen. Martin E. Dempsey , chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff;  Paul Ryan , chairman of the House Budget Committee and U.S. representative (R., Wis.);  James Clapper , director of national intelligence;  Jim Yong Kim , president of the World Bank; Cass Sunstein , the Obama administration's former chief regulator;  Glenn Hubbard , dean of the Columbia University School of Business; Lawrence H. Summers , former U.S. treasury secretary and director of the national economic council; and many more.

Following the interviews, CEO Council members will break into five task forces to debate and collaborate on identifying the most urgent priorities for action in business, government, and the economy. This year's Task Force topics include the future of capitalism, energy, health care, cyber espionage and staying competitive in today's global markets.

"With the government shutdown just behind us, but continuing uncertainty about the fiscal outlook, this year's CEO Council takes place at a critical time for the U.S. economy. We are bringing together an unrivaled group of corporate leaders and Washington policymakers to explore ways to develop a sustainable policy framework for renewed growth and stability," said Gerard Baker, managing editor of The Wall Street Journal , who will deliver the opening remarks.
