Most disturbing is that federal law, unlike the California state law, allows seizure of property like houses, land, vehicles etc. from those only suspected, not convicted, of dealing in a federally illegal substance. Though the Supreme Court narrowly upheld it, the federal forfeiture statute ignores due process of law guaranteed by the constitution. It's a lucrative deal for feds, though. D E A seized a business complex worth $1.5mil on the basis of a $37 sale of pot by a MMJ dispensary, a tenant in the building. The numerous other tenant businesses in the building were not dispensaries and had nothing to do with this issue.
