Morgan Drexen Establishes Legal Defense Fund COSTA

COSTA MESA, Calif., Oct. 18, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Morgan Drexen Integrated Systems, a company of fewer than 300 employees that provides back office support services to attorneys nationwide, has established a legal defense fund to collect donations for its expensive legal battle against the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. StopGovernmentDataMining.org will serve as a central website where supporters of Morgan Drexen's fight for consumer privacy and constitutional principles can donate money.

"Taking on a mammoth federal agency guarded by an army of lawyers is an intense and expensive undertaking," says Walter Ledda, Morgan Drexen CEO. "Our battle against the CFPB has already cost our company millions of dollars – both in lost revenue and in attorneys fees. We believe we are fighting the good fight against an unconstitutional agency that has been data mining Morgan Drexen for personal and sensitive financial information on millions of Americans. The CFPB has been acting with impunity and malice. We hope citizens who are outraged at the bully tactics being employed by this bloated, runaway agency will join us in this fight."      

In July, 2013, after more than a year of data mining and staring down the barrel of implied enforcement threats by the CFPB, Morgan Drexen filed a lawsuit challenging the agency's constitutionality. The CFPB responded with a retaliatory lawsuit a few weeks later, filed 3,000 miles away in California. A federal judge has since ruled that Morgan Drexen's constitutional challenge be settled in the California case.

Morgan Drexen's initial lawsuit contends the CFPB lacks the constitutionally mandated checks and balances required of a federal agency. The CFPB operates with virtually no political oversight and spends more than half a billion dollars of taxpayer money annually without having to justify a single penny. By way of example, the CFPB was completely unaffected by the recent government shutdown.

The CFPB has demanded that Morgan Drexen produce confidential bankruptcy documents of thousands of consumers -- communications that are protected by attorney–client privilege.  Already under fire from Congress for its egregious data mining campaign, it was recently revealed that the CFPB may have inappropriately recruited the U.S. Trustee Program to obtain millions of bankruptcy documents of financially distressed consumers. The Government Accountability Office has launched an investigation into the CFPB's data-mining program.

"We will take this fight as far as we can, no matter the cost," said Ledda. "This is a David vs. Goliath battle, but we are hoping citizens who are outraged at the shameful and unconstitutional tactics of the CFPB will contribute what they can to help us in this important fight."
