NEW YORK, Oct. 17, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Nazmiyal Collection, New York City's premier Antique Carpet Gallery , has partnered with the Hajji Baba Club to sponsor and host a series of four seminars exploring the world of antique oriental rugs. Attendees will have an opportunity to view antique carpets , ask questions and participate in casual discussions lead by experts in the field. Public guests, rug collectors and members of North America's oldest and most prestigious rug club are all invited to visit the Nazmiyal carpet gallery in Midtown Manhattan on Wednesday evenings starting on October 23, 2013.
The first installment of this four-part series will give guests a comprehensive overview of antique rugs, focusing on current market trends, classical designs, structural qualities and how to tell if a rug was restored. This segment is ideal for carpet collectors as well as those who are just discovering the beauty and intrinsic value of these handcrafted pieces. After covering the basics, guests can return on November 13th to learn about symbol-filled tribal rugs and village antique rugs from Persia , Turkey and the Caucasus with an emphasis on works from the 19th century. Part three is scheduled for January 15th and will focus on city carpets, master weavers and imperial workshops in Persia, India and other carpet empires. On February 19th, the final part in the series will give attendees an up-close look at hand-picked pieces from Nazmiyal's private carpet collection. This thorough conclusion will showcase fine carpets from the 16th century through the early 1900's.
Design aficionados and rug collectors in New York City and the surrounding area are welcome to attend one or all parts of this world-class seminar. Omri Schwartz, Nazmiyal's gallery manager, explained, "Our goal in partnering with the Hajji Baba Club is to introduce visitors to a variety of carpets while giving them the knowledge to appreciate these works of art and the tools to start or grow a collection." Each event will begin at 6 pm on Wednesday and wrap up at 8 pm. Light refreshments will be available. A donation of $15 per seminar or $50 for the series is encouraged to ensure that the Hajji Baba Club can continue hosting public events. Seating for this series is limited.
