Someone asked me privately 'what is happening with POET?' & here's my reply...
No man, some are getting restless that there isn't an update on the Milestones (MS).
The Corporate Presentation (CP) suggested that there would be 2 MS's done by Q3.
Since MS6 was done ahead of schedule I, and many others thought that POET would have more time to complete MS5 & 7.
The company also released a new CP in September and also then the 2 MS's were still scheduled for Q3, this reinforced our
beliefs that they would be done in that given time frame. Yet these dates on the Development Milestone' map are mere suggestions as to when they expect them to be ready. Its very difficult for any company to be precise on time, especially time expectations of shareholders assumptions. POET is a decently run company and they'll announce the news once the technology is ready. Some of the components are not in POET' hands, like MS7, because this is validated by BAE Systems, and management is awaiting their release of the news before they can update us. Its one thing to test something to see if it works, its another to mass-produce these components. This is where we're at right now, eagerly awaiting on BAE to release the news of their validation. It can also be that they're in advanced talks with BAE regarding a license/contract for IR Sensors and that this is holding the news up. At least this is applicable for MS7. As for MS5, this is not so important, but nonetheless something they ought to complete, yet in the list of priorities this is subordinate to demands from third parties. MS6 was done ahead of schedule because 3rd parties requested that, and they're also asking POET to prove that it can be scaled down to 100 nanometers. This of course takes precedence over the MS map dates. I think once the 100 nm is done that PDA's will be closed with one or more of the big names in the industry. POET needs these Product Development Alliances to further develop and produce all sorts of different products, be it sensors, low powered RAM, optical code division etc. so I can certainly understand management' decision to shift their priorities, although at the same time I can understand shareholder' complaints that the company ought to update us on that. But here lies the crux IMO The company is working with military partners and secrecy must be respected, on both sides. Add to this that the company also has NDA's to comply with, which further decreases their ability to be upfront and report progress to the outside world. I can even add that when a company is in high-end and advanced negotiations that they can't report every detail to satisfy the frantic needs of every shareholder who demands an answer NOW. It doesn't work that way... Yet some are getting weak knees and fear the worst, hence the selling intensifies. But at this point there isn't a single fact that points out that the technology stopped working all of a sudden. I can't deny the possibility that there are minor issues with one or more components, especially when they scale it up to mass production, but at this point in time there isn't a single piece of evidence that there are minor issues. Even if it that is the case it is something that can be worked on to iron out the flaws. But if I were to take a guess at gunpoint I would still say that military secrecy, NDA's and advanced talks are the culprit of delays, and not some kind of weird malfunction of POET.
