"Merely taking a cached copy of data from a traditional, disk-based data warehouse and dropping it into memory simply does not deliver the benefits of true in-memory computing," Groom says. It's time for absolute clarity in this area as the benefits are very real."
Groom will also tell conference attendees that a Modern Data Platform must act as a Logical Data Warehouse to "bridge" Hadoop with legacy systems and connect it to existing visualization and dashboard tools for reporting and advanced analytics. While Hadoop benefits from multiple CPUs, he notes, a true in-memory approach and mature SQL is needed in a Hadoop environment to reduce query response times to seconds.
