NEW YORK, Oct. 9, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Gainey McKenna & Egleston announces that a class action lawsuit has been filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York on behalf of those who purchased securities of BlackBerry Ltd. ("BlackBerry" or the "Company") (Nasdaq: BBRY ), during the period between September 27, 2012 and September 20, 2013, inclusive (the "Class Period"). The Complaint seeks to recover damages against the Company and certain of its officers and directors as a result of alleged violations of the federal securities laws pursuant to Sections 10(b) and 20(a) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and Rule 10b-5 promulgated thereunder.

The Complaint alleges that Defendants published a series of materially false and misleading statements that Defendants knew and/or recklessly disregarded were materially false and misleading at the time of publication, and that omitted to reveal material information necessary to make Defendants' statements, in light of such omissions, not materially false and misleading. Specifically, the Complaint alleges that the Company failed to inform investors that, contrary to Defendants' statements touting the Company's new BlackBerry 10 line of smart phones and the financial strength of BlackBerry, the Company was not on the road to recovery and re-emerging as a lead player in the wireless communications industry, but instead, BlackBerry's business, operations and financial situation was made even worse by the introduction of the BlackBerry 10 platform, which was poorly received by the market.
