Compuware to Speak on Building a Reliable Production Incident System at Velocity New York 2013 Conference

DETROIT, Oct. 8, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Compuware Corporation (Nasdaq: CPWR ), the technology performance company delivering a new generation of application performance management (APM), today announced that Alois Reitbauer, a Technology Strategist for Compuware's APM business, will present a session on skills and best practices for building a reliable production incident system at the Velocity New York 2013 Conference.

Session Title: "The Dark Art of Building a Production Incident System"
When:   Tuesday, October 15, 2013
Time:   4:15 p.m. Eastern time
Where:   Velocity New York 2013 Conference , New York Hilton Midtown, Grand Ballroom West
What:   Incident management and alerting are the spine of operations monitoring . Getting them working
    properly is a great challenge – even today. Besides in-depth knowledge about how IT infrastructure
    and applications work, organizations also need a fair amount of mathematical skills, if they don't
     want to define ten thousands of alerting thresholds manually.

    Our challenge was even tougher. We needed to develop a reliable incident system that works consistently
    in more than 1000 applications without the requirement for any manual configuration. This session
    will cover how this was done.

    During this session attendees will learn:
    * which metrics should and should not be tracked;
    * why they should differentiate between violations and incidents;
    * what makes a metric suitable for baselining and violation detection;
    * the top reasons for too many or too few incidents;
    * why an incident system might trigger too fast or too slow;
    * what percentile drift detection is and how it helps to improve alerts; and
    * how infrastructure and applications structure helps to reduce the number of incidents.
Speaker: Alois Reitbauer is a technology strategist and evangelist in the Compuware APM Center of Excellence with
    more than 15 years of experience in the technology industry. Additionally, Reitbauer specializes in the
    architecture and performance of Java and AJAX environments.

Compuware is a gold sponsor of the Velocity New York 2013 Conference and will showcase and demonstrate Compuware APM, October 14-16 at booth #22.
