A New Era for Pickleball in Palm Beach
It might be time to re-evaluate pickleball if you weren't paying attention before. The Palm Beach Royals have wrapped up their first Major League Pickleball season with a bang, marking a pivotal year for the sport. This underdog tale of graft and grit is carving out a new chapter in the world of sport.
Record-Breaking Season for MLP
Let's talk numbers because they don't lie. Major League Pickleball reached an all-time high this season, showing a 55% increase in viewership for the finals. CBS drew in 773,000 viewers at the MLP Finals, while FS1's coverage of Orlando MLP saw a staggering 224% rise, hitting 146,000 viewers. Streaming on PickleballTV wasn't too shabby either, clocking 415 million views, 32% more than last year. If that's not growth, then I don't know what is.
"When we brought the Royals to Palm Beach, we believed this community and this sport were ready for something big, and this season proved just that," stated co-owner Taylor Meyer.
It's clear that pickleball is no longer a backyard pastime but a serious business opportunity drawing eyeballs and, no doubt, dollars.
On The Court: Royals' Triumphs
Now, the Royals weren't just coasting on this surge—they proved they belonged on the court. Finishing in the top 5 consistently throughout the season, they showed they were a force to reckon with. Notably, their women's doubles pair, Sofia Sewing and Tina Pisnik, had an 18-game winning streak, anchoring the team's prowess.
Spotlight on Individual Performance
Casey Diamond, one of their players, captured the nation’s attention with back-to-back SportsCenter Top 10 highlights. Oh, and don't forget Pisnik's DreamBreaker shot during playoffs. You can't manufacture that kind of impact; it takes genuine skill and a bit of hard-nosed determination.
Influence Beyond the Court
The Royals weren't just about mind-blowing plays and winning scores. Their community outreach was just as impressive, engaging in more than 40 events in the Palm Beach area, including support for the Boys & Girls Club. They offered clinics, equipment, and the chance for local kids to meet the pros. That's where you build loyalty and get a whole new generation invested in the sport.
Add an Ambassador Program and the Royals Reserve Club to that mix, and they're creating a year-round fan base to boot. It’s savvy and sustainable brand-building.
Building Corporate Partnerships
The Royals can also credit their success to the slew of corporate tie-ups they’ve secured. Partnerships with brands like Baptist Health and LaCroix are a solid indicator that companies are finding value in working with this emerging sports powerhouse. The Royals have forged a sustainable model that could see them flourishing in years to come.
Looking Ahead to 2027
The Royals aren't resting on their laurels. Plans for 2027 include a new HQ, the Boca Paddle facility. They’re setting up not just for another season, but the long haul, thanks to ownership group Hyperspace Ventures and notable investors from other sports and entertainment arenas.
"Our goal from the start was for every Palm Beach resident to feel like part of the Royals family," said Zach Hunter, feeding into that vision of community and inclusion driving the team forward.
Make no mistake—Major League Pickleball is making its mark, and the Palm Beach Royals are right at the center of this sporting revolution.
