The 2022 growing season exhibited quintessential winter weather characterized by cool temperatures, aligning perfectly with the expected rhythms of early spring. The subsequent spring was notable for its dryness, allowing the vines to awaken slowly and with purpose. As May approached, a surge of warmer days marked a turning point, with temperatures soaring to 95°F (35°C) and an absence of rain, followed by refreshing summer showers that restored vitality to the soil. This period of fluctuating conditions laid the groundwork for exceptional fruit maturity as the season progressed into September, bringing cool nights that nurtured the development of sugars, aromas, and tannins—each adding complexity to the harvest.
Timing the Harvest with Precision
Farmers commenced the harvest process under favorable weather conditions, allowing the technical team to pick each vineyard parcel at the optimal time. The first Merlot clusters were selectively handpicked on the 6th of September, with the entire harvest wrapping up by the 9th of October.

Each grape harvested from the distinct vineyard parcels undergoes individual fermentation. This process allows for the unique characteristics of each batch to shine before they are blended into a harmonious representation of the estate’s terroir. The wine commences a 24-month maturation period in barriques, where it is nurtured at controlled temperatures. Following this, it is allowed to rest for another twelve months in bottles, achieving an exquisite balance of depth and elegance that defines the Masseto style.
Crafted under the brilliant Tuscan sun, enriched with gentle sea breezes and grown in Pliocene-era blue clay, Masseto 2022 emerges with remarkable finesse.
