It sounds like this is in the works.  What I imagine happened:  The team started wheeling and dealing and suddenly they are hit with an onslaught of shareholders.  I suspect they were caught off guard.  I'm not sure it was ever their intention to have "come out" yet.  They really have a SHIT TON of work ahead of them.  The end of October is not that far away.
