FilmOn signs landmark content deal with TVE
By Editor IPTV News August 5th, 2013
IPTV giant FilmOn – the world’s largest provider of internet TV – has announced a major agreement with Spanish state broadcaster TVE to stream its content to international markets.
The agreement will see FilmOn – owned by Greek media billionaire Alki David – will see FilmOn stream TVE content straight to PCs and smartphones, regardless of their location at the time.
FilmOn already boasts 500 channels, mostly under licence from private broadcasters. The TVE deal is being done on a revenue share basis.
The arrangement will open up TVE to substantial new audiences – and enabling FilmOn to consolidate its position as the leading player in the IPTV market.
Gary Shoefield, FilmOn’s senior vice president for programming in Europe, said: “I have been working with Fernando for a long time to put together this ground-breaking deal for both FilmOn and TVE. All national broadcasters throughout the world are now looking to the Internet to deliver them income, and FilmOn is again at the forefront of distribution to this global audience.”
TVE channel sales executive Fernando Hernández Berzal said TVE would be able to explore new ways to reach its audiences worldwide.
FilmOn signed a similar agreement with Australian national broadcaster ABC earlier this year.
The firm’s content portfolio also includes 45,000 hours of video casts updated on a rolling basis.
