Gold stocks were trading mostly down on profit taking and as gold fell on Friday. But, bullion was on track for a third weekly rally, as caution over the U.S. Federal Reserve’s message at next week’s monetary policy meeting pushed the dollar down. The greenback was down broadly against a basket of major currencies, keeping a floor under bullion, after a Wall Street Journal report provided signs that the central bank will not be raising rates any time soon.

Gold stock ended mixed on Thursday after the precious metals benefited from a slightly lower U.S. dollar index.
