Re: pastorphil #2

And where are they going to get the water from?

San Luis is located on the Southwest corner of Arizona, within Yuma County in the United States. San Luis is the border town to San Luis, Sonora, Mexico. Established in 1930, as a U.S. Port of entry into Mexico, San Luis is now a thriving and diverse part of the Yuma metropolitan area.

" SAN LUIS CELEBRATES NEW ENERGY EFFICIENT WATER PUMP "

San Luis, Arizona – San Luis Celebrates The Completion Of The City’s New Energy Efficient Water Pump Project At Well Site #4.
City of San Luis Vice Mayor Marco Pinzon, Members of Council, Staff and community partners joined today for a ribbon cutting to celebrate the completion of the city’s New Energy Efficient Water Pump Project at Well Site #4. Vice Mayor Marco A. Pinzon said, “The new Energy Efficient Water Pump is a good project for San Luis. The new installation will save the City of San Luis over $15,000 in energy costs per year and saving energy is good for everyone.”

“Pumps of this type usually last for 20 years and ultimately result in a savings of more than $300,000.00 over the service life of the equipment...So we know we did good… and I am privileged to be a part of this accomplishment.”
The City of San Luis replaced two old and relatively inefficient cast iron pumps at Well Site #4 (located at Juan Sanchez and 8 th Avenue) with a single, stainless steel high-efficiency pump that has  variable frequency drives.

The existing well pump is rated at 75hp and requires a large surge tank with a 40 hp  booster pump to push the water through manganese filters. The new pump is 100 hp and the variable drive allows for more efficient start-up. It is strong enough to push the water through manganese filters without the need for an additional tank to be pressurized by a "booster pump."

Dr. Michael Trend said, “The main thing is that we'll save a lot of electricity while accomplishing the same job. We pump 1,000 gallons a minute at that site, 23 hours a day, seven days a week. The new pump will be a real workhorse for us..."Well Site #4 came on line in the late 1990s. It's one of our best wells and the new pump will really  help out .”

The ribbon cutting celebration took place today at Well Site #4, located at the corner of Juan Sanchez Blvd and 8 th Avenue.

This is the sixth project in San Luis funded by stimulus money for infrastructure… (Total amount is in excess of $1 million.)

Additional Highligts:
--All of the equipment is made in the USA.
--The City of San Luis used two local contractors: Shuck Drilling
and Diaz B. Electric LLC. (Diaz was the  computer programming for the pump.
--Funding was provided by the Governor's Office of Energy Policy.
--ARRA "Stimulus Money" was used. The total of this grant was $50,000.00.
--APS also will provide additional incentive payments to the city.

Most of the people live in San Luis Rio Colorado - in Mexico.

I could see SOLAR as an energy source - but water is too precious to waste in this desert area.
