HbbTV aims for global acceptance
The European HbbTV (Hybrid Broadband Broadcast TV) specification is poised to become the global standard for hybrid TV as it gains acceptance across Asia and Africa, while becoming aligned with the next-generation ATSC 3.0 standard for digital
terrestrial transmission. This has led the HbbTV Consortium, the pan-European body dedicated to promotion of the specification as an open standard, to launch a marketing campaign to drive its global acceptance. There is not that much competition in the fragmented world of hybrid TV, so HbbTV has a good chance of success.
It has already gained wide adoption across Europe and has spread across the wider region, including Russia, parts of the Far East and some African countries, that have already adopted Europe’s digital terrestrial standards defined by the DVB.

Intel to launch its Virtual Cable service plan soon
Competition faced by Intel:
With the cable industry's annual conference this week, the launch of Intel's cable service got a new life. The Federal Communications Commission would also be able to incorporate legal protections for providers like Intel, much like it does for the other distributors.
Intel TV will have the potential of altering the media marketplace if it is delivered by the major service providers like the Comcast or the Time Warner Cable. A cable service like Intel's, capable of streaming small and big channels through an interface, thus enabling the consumers to cancel their cable subscriptions unlike services like Netflix which supplements
cable.
The probable competitors for Intel's virtual cable service would be Comcast and Time Warner Cable as it would compete with the larger markets all across the world on its own. Microsoft, Apple and Sony would probably be next in line.
Major channels have different clauses in their contracts to prohibit them from selling their Internet distributor to companies like Intel. For Intel to make its mark, it sure is not an easy nut to crack.
