another part of the mystery is the ocean currents which us landlubbers dont think much about-esp at the surface, as they would usually be much slower than rivers,but big civilian commercial ships dont travel very fast, so currents would be an important consideration and I understand the currents are favorable in the Bering Sea in the direction of Russia- perhaps more on that later
