When directed by the company you will first send your cert to the TA.  The TA will send the converted shares to your broker and the TA will return you a new CERT with the remaining preferred shares.  The commons deposited into your broker account will free trading at will.

Also be aware that the common shares will be registered so, there should be no issue with your broker accepting them.
