Sort of interesting in what they don't talk about. They don't talk about any speeds of their mobile robot. That tells me slow. They don't disclose the update rate of their Kinect software and nav engine. That tells me slow. They don't say how long localization takes, so that tells me slow. All in all, while the like the 3D Kinect over a 2D scanning laser range finder since much more beneficial 3D and not dumb 2D, what they don't talk about tells me they have chosen to not reveal those performance attributes since they are not very good....
Hence CMU probably won't be doing an equivalent to GOSY's SafePath wheelchair tech any time soon-
CMO, imho, is one of the top 5 mobile robot institutions in the world. Since the mid eighties they have offered a PhD in Personal Robotics, eg.
