There would have to be a meeting in order for hands to be changed. Then they would have to announce it which obviously hasn't happened. This is IMO a phoney, fake attempt to keep this from running hard. I've seen tactics like this used on sites like Seeing alpha and such only at be bottom the person discloses their Intentions and will say they are short. I believe legally they have to express that if they are posting it for that purpose which clearly this person was. Hopefully whoever did that will face legal action against them.
