U.S. stocks hit session lows; Alcoa drags on Dow
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stocks hit session lows Tuesday as industrials and resource stocks came under pressure. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIJIA) lost as much as 113 points and was recently down 95 points at 12,642. Alcoa Inc. (NYSE:AA) , which reported a loss late Monday, was down the most, followed by Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE:CAT) . The S&P 500 (SNC:SPX) fell 11 points, or 0.8%, to 1,341. The Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQ:COMP) lost 29 points, or 1%, to 2,903. Investors sold cyclical stocks and bid up the U.S. dollar and Treasurys after the latest headlines from Europe did little to support hopes of a near-term resolution to the region's debt problems.
