The share price went up by a multiple of four earlier this year during the period when the exciting news about overall survival in both tnbc and crc was announced. That was real news, not hype. I agree that there was far too much hype on the message boards -- people bending and twisting to discover why even a shelf offering (S3) might be great news. But I don't think that carried the stock.

Hoffman's presentation wasn't well done, and that lowered the SP. He completely buried the small but good things that were included. If you didn't know what he was talking about beforehand, you didn't know what he was talking about after he was done, either.

But if the market were driven by message boards, we wouldn't be below half a buck. The message boards have decided we were on the verge of a buyout of $20 billion; we'd have been $15-$20 a share if they were the deciding factor.

By the way, the false hype goes both ways. Folks here seem to be reacting as if we'd actually issued the shares, not authorized them. Some like KC Royal seem just pleased as punch to caw out the bad news; most are just frustrated. I don't think authorizing shares is real news, but most people do. The messageboards do influence the emotions of some, but they don't "control" them, as you put it.
