With all due respect, no, Ohm, I do NOT think that science is dependent upon what the world thinks.
I DO think that the financial success of science can be dependent upon what the world thinks, as so many here have bet (too much) that leronlimab is a cure-all for the dozens of maladies that you have listed that it is/could be and they choose to believe it all, and yet, we sit at .28 for a year.
How successful is the science to the rest of the world?
