I came across a snapping turtle in my neighborhood a few years back that was trying to cross a road. My assumption is that someone had taken it from the wild and released it when they got tired of their strange pet. I took it to a small pond and released it; I haven't seen it since then so I can't give you a progress report on the reptile.
