CTLA-4 binds to killer T-cells and stops them from recognizing tumor cells as being irregular cells that should be destroyed. Ipilimumab blocks CTLA-4 allowing the killer T-cells to eliminate the tumor cells. Somewhat similar to PD-L1 except PD-L1 is expressed on tumor cells and PD-1 binds to it, it stops the killer T-cells from recognizing the tumor cells as being irregular. Leronlimab downregulates CTLA-4 although not quite as efficiently as a CTLA-4 blocker.
