Just FYI if you didn’t receive an email from schawb you might not realize you have a margin account and your shares are being lent out in order to short the stock. This only serves to negatively impact the company and you are basically letting someone make money off your shares for free without you knowing. They are looking for shares to short.
I just confirmed this with another shareholder via DM who was under the impression their account was an all cash account. Even if you don’t actively use margin the shares can be lent out out without you knowing. Every single share you own would be used against the company to try to push the share price down.
Now it’s possible the email didn’t go to everyone but if anyone is having any issues or needs help sorting it out please feel free to DM me!
If you have an all cash account you are good to go but if you aren’t sure feel free to reach out to me and I would be more than willing to help.
Edit: Also if you lend your shares out in a cash account and major news drops you could potentially freeze/delay you from not being able to sell share because they will struggle to find them since they are lent out. They say you can sell whenever you want, however if you dig into it you can get in a world of trouble.
If a major short squeezes takes place your broker won’t know what’s going on and they will be searching for share because they will be very scarce. This becomes not only a short problem but then also yours if you want to de-risk on the way up.
Enjoy the weekend!
