I doubt Mike Meier is a player here. Probably became an independent contractor for who knows why. An independent contractor has several companies they represent. Meier is like an interior designer or decorator specializes in wood for high-end homes. He can use NorthCal or other companies if he chooses. He would be self-employed, thus the term affiliate. Looks like the names are a coincidence.
