Just an FYI in connection with Respert's post where he claims you ALWAYS double down on 11, that is not quite true.
When playing a shoe game, you don't double down when the dealer can stand on a soft 17.
How do I know this? If you have ever heard of the movie "21" (Kevin Spacey) or the book "Bringing Down the House" about the MIT team that took Vegas for millions of $$, I actually dated a woman on the team and she taught me and 5 other people how to count cards. We played high stakes blackjack in Vegas and places in Southern California (once we passed her requisite tests) and did quite well.
I don't drink when I play blackjack because it's just not my thing. When playing Pai Gow? I love to drink because math is not involved. LOL
