It has been a week since we noticed the institutional ownership, likely many have asked their broker, Cytodyn and possibly refinitiv what is going on with it. They could have easily fixed the glitch by now. This is a publicly traded company and refenitiv is in the business of reporting accurate info that many would trade shares based on. If they made a mistake like this I don’t think they would be a reliable source for much info in the future.
Also, it is interesting that the math works out that the difference between the shares authorized and outstanding shows that the institutional ownership is all of the shares in the difference. It is like the institution wants as many shares as possible but this is the amount that the company has without putting it to a vote. We have not seen a massive volume of buying on the open market. The volume is higher but not a take ownership volume. If all the shares that Cytodyn has available to do a partnership are completely in the hands of an institution then they have no shares to do any other deal with anyone else.
