Australia awards 6.4 GW of clean energy projects in CIS Tender
The Australian Ministry for Climate Change and Energy has announced 19 renewable energy projects that will add 6.4 GW (GW) of clean energy to the National Electricity Market (NEM). The projects were chosen as part of the Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS) Tender 1 and are located across the Australian states of New South Wales (3.7 GW), Victoria (1.6 GW), South Australia (574 MW), and Queensland (550 MW), and combined they are expected to generate enough to power three million homes. Solar projects amounted to 1651 MW, while wind represented 3,040 MW. There where also some storage systems awarded, with one wind plus BESS of 585 MW/800 MWh and seven solar plus BESS with a combined capacity of 1099 MW/2,762 MWh. Most of these projects are expected to begin operating between 2026 and 2028.
The CIS aims to incentivize the deployment of 32 GW of renewable energy by 2030 to reach the Australian Government goal to reach a power mix with an 82% of renewable energy.
