when I started reading yr post I thought you were going to reference the 9 confirmed cases of poultry-to-human transmission of bird flu in WA state alone (3 new awaiting confirmation). Straight bird-to-human, not needing a mammal in the middle like the pig case that was news recently.
As I'm only one state away from WA I'm concerned...much more immediate than Rwanda...both are concerning but the bird flu (which we saw several birds suffering from this past summer, had to disinfect our birdbath at one point) is all around us...
