The obvious advantage that I see BIEL having right now is that the doctors want to cut into the body and clamp a stimulation device onto a nerve. Once you cut into the body and start clamping onto delicate nerves there is a risk of damage, even by the most skilled surgeons. This is in addition to the ever present danger of infection.
In the recent Canine OA Study the RecoveryRx device was fastened to the dog's collar to stimulate the Vagus Nerve as it passes through the neck. No skin penetration from a scalpel or clamping foreign objects to sensitive nerves.
IMO, most patients, Human and Dog, would prefer having a RecoveryRx taped to their neck vs going through surgery.
