High levels of glucose associated with obesity increase inflammation. GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic increase insulin production to metabolize that glucose. The side effects seen with Ozempic especially in weight loss use might be related to the overproduction of insulin.
But GLP-1 agonists like Ozempic are another example of putting the cart before the horse. CCL5 (RANTES) has been show to severely downregulate GLP-1 expression. So it's a vicious little circle. A small amount of obesity or other factors increases CCL5, which decreases GLP-1 which induces further obesity which increases CCL5 further etc. CCR5 blockade has been shown to reverse that downregulation of GLP-1 and bring things back to normal rather than the potential overproduction of insulin.

So now they acknowledge lowering inflammation is a superpower. Maybe they should look at drugs that directly lower inflammation at the source.
