The reality here is that we’re all emotionally and financially invested in Leronlimab. Capturing the attention of an apathetic moviegoing public, who would have to pay for a ticket, or choose watching the story over everything else in the market, is the challenge.
Would any of you invest, say, $10m to bring the story to life and be confident you’d get your money back? Film financiers aren’t in it for the art or the humanitarian message.
CONCUSSION had a budget of $35m and P&A (print and advertising) typically doubles that to $70m. It grossed $35m domestically and $14m internationally. You just lost a ton of money and that was Will Smith *before* the slap.
Compelling as the LL story might be, once we know how it ends, it isn’t automatically a home run feature or miniseries.
